This presentation offers strategies of documentary work in new media and explores some of ways new media might also reveal and conceal stories, views, and voices.

The talk presents material recorded in Africa and France. The visual examples demonstrate ways in which new media can be used to offer alternative ways of approaching the conventions and rhetorics of film and photography. Special attention is given to the spatial constructs determined by screen environments and to the changing relationship between text and images in these new spaces. The talk includes excerpts from several recent multimedia works.
