Syd Bauman has been named North American Editor of the Text Encoding Initiative (TEI) Guidelines, starting January 1st 2002. With Lou Burnard, the European Editor, he is working on completing an XML-compliant version of the Guidelines, which is expected to appear in the spring of 2002.

In January 2002 he attended the first meeting of the newly elected TEI Council in London, at which the Council began planning the technical work of the TEI Consortium (www.tei-c.org).

In November 2001 he attended the first annual TEI members meeting in Pisa, where he and Lou reported on the progress and future directions of the Guidelines.

In October 2001 he was named Interim North American Editor of the TEI.
