Freedom Now! An Archival Project of Tougaloo College and Brown University

STG worked with the faculty and students to design a set of
metadata for the documents, and to help them apply it. We
then implemented the the website, which includes topic
essays written by the students, and its underlying database.
During 2002, Susan Smulyan and James Campbell, together with
students and colleagues at Brown and its sister school
Tougaloo College did research in the Tougaloo archives to
gather materials documenting the Civil Rights movement.
They subsequently gathered materials at Brown and Tougaloo
documenting the relationship between the two schools. Once they had
collected their materials, they wanted to publish them in digital
form, so as to share them as widely as possible.
