Catalan Literature Bibliography (version 1)

STG lead(s): Elli Mylonas

Prof. Enric Bou of the Hispanic Studies Department of Brown University was developing a database of works by and about the Catalan poet Pere Gimferrer, using the EndNote application. In order to make the materials more widely accessible, and so that Prof. Bou and his colleagues could collaboratively edit the same database, STG worked with them to put the database on the Web. First we converted the EndNote file into Filemaker. We then developed a set of Web pages and used the Tango program to put the Filemaker database on the Web. We also added features to the database to enable distributed submissions. Since that time, the project has expanded to become a database of contemporary Catalan literature. STG remains involved as the expanding needs of the project necessitate a move into more powerful database software.

In addition to structuring the data for greater accessibility, STG provided research and consultation on selection of database software appropriate to the delivery and maintenance of the database. Technical work on this project was performed by Robert Madeira, '98.

The Bibliografia de Literatura Catalana/Catalan Literature Bibliography [BUCLIB] is a searchable on-line database of books by major Catalan writers from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, and scholarly literature written about them. It developed out of a project to create a web page devoted to the works of Pere Gimferrer.
