Romanian Love Charms

Website  http://www.stg.brown.edu/projects/romanianCharms

STG lead(s): Carole Mah, Elli Mylonas

Sanda Golopentia had constructed a corpus of Romanian love charms on the Brown mainframe over 10 years ago. This was implemented by Allen Renear using Waterloo Script, and was used to typeset a book analyzing the love charms. She is now in the process of expanding the corpus by adding more texts, and also to continuing to organize and analyze as she did before. In order for this to be possible, the texts had to be converted into a database, and be made accessible via the WWW. Together with Prof. Golopentia, STG also developed a simple website about the love charms, containing ancillary materials such audio and video of the charms.

STG analyzed the original Script files in order to determine the structures that were put in place, and create an SQL database, accessible via the web. This is now in place and Prof. Golopentia is correcting and adding to it. We have also implemented a websiteso to display the charms and their classifications.
