Support and Advice on Research Technologies

STG consulted with Kerry Smith on using the Tinderbox program from Eastgate Systems to organize his research. A spinoff of this project was that we made a small database of newspaper materials in English on Japanese history for one of his classes.
Kerry Smith was in the middle of researching the Great Kanto Earthquake of September 1923, in Japan for his next book. He was looking at tools that would help him make spatial connections between the materials he amassed, and allow him to organize things geographically. He was also interested in tools that could handle Unicode so that he would be able to write in Japanese without transliteration.
